The Day Before
Beauty Treatments
Complete mani, pedi, lashes, massages and facials before the day of your tan. It is best to avoid doing these the day of as left over residue of any products, or freshly exfoliated skin can effect how your spray tan develops.
Hair Removal
Ensure all hair removal processes, such as waxing or shaving, are completed at least 24 hours before your spray tan. This timing helps prevent any irritation or streaks in the tan, as shaving closer to the appointment can leave a film on the skin that inhibits proper solution adhesion.
Exfoliation
You can begin your skin’s preparation 3-5 days before your spray tan appointment. Optimal exfoliation and hydration are crucial to avoid a “last-ditch effort” the night before.
Hydration Tips
While it’s important to avoid lotions and oils before your tan, keeping your skin hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment is key. Drink plenty of water to ensure your skin is hydrated from the inside out, promoting a smoother, more even tan. Avoid any moisturizing products on the day of your tan to maintain the perfect canvas for application.
The Day Before
No Lotion
On the day of your appointment, your skin should be free from moisturizers, perfumes, deodorants, or makeup, as these can create a barrier that prevents the tan from adhering evenly.
Skin Cleanliness
On the day of your spray tan, it’s crucial to arrive with skin that is completely clean. This means no lotions, oils, perfume or makeup should be applied the day of your appointment. Showering with a mild, non-oily soap will help ensure that the tanning solution adheres evenly and doesn’t become blotchy. Avoid Dove soap, as it can effect your skins pH.
Outfit
Choose your attire wisely for the spray tan session. Loose, dark-colored clothing is ideal as it prevents any rubbing that might affect the tan’s development. Opt for open-toed sandals or flip-flops to avoid streaks on your feet. Remember, tight clothing like jeans or leggings can leave marks and affect the evenness of your tan.
Avoiding Makeup, Perfume, and Deodorant
To ensure the spray tan solution adheres properly, avoid wearing makeup, perfume, and deodorant to your appointment. These products can create a barrier on your skin, preventing the tan from developing evenly. If coming straight from work or another engagement, don’t worry, we provide wipes to remove any products from your skin before the session.
Post Tan
First Rinse
After your spray tan session, timing your first shower is crucial for optimal tan development. Your technician will let you know your rinse off time. Use only lukewarm water and avoid any soaps or shampoos during this initial rinse. Remember, harsh scrubbing or exfoliating is off-limits; gently pat your skin dry with a towel to prevent disrupting the tan’s development.
Post Tan Fit
Choose your post-tan attire wisely. Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing to prevent any rubbing that might affect the tan’s evenness. Avoid tight clothing such as jeans or leggings, which can leave marks. For footwear, flip-flops or other loose shoes, are ideal to avoid streaks on your feet and ankles.
Exercise
Pause on physical activity for 24 hours. Sweating can cause the tan to streak and fade unevenly. It’s important to minimize sweat and skin friction while your spray tan is developing.
Maintaining your tan
Daily Moisturization
To keep your tan looking vibrant, moisturize daily with an oil-free moisturizer right after your shower. This locks in moisture and helps extend the life of your tan.
Tan Extender
Incorporate a sunless lotion into your routine to maintain and enhance your tan. Apply these lotions every 2-3 days; they contain a small amount of DHA to replenish your tan’s color, ensuring it fades evenly and lasts longer.
Ingredients to Avoid
It is crucial to use a sulfate-free/oil free body wash and lotion. Sulfate, mineral oil, alochols will dry the skin out and cause an uneven and unnatural fade.
